Region of Murcia
There are two main cities in the region Cartagena
and the regions capital Murcia. Cartagena has an historic port and harbour area.
Murcia is a typical Spanish city with wide avenues and plazas. La Manga is a
popular area for tourists and Spanish people to spend the summer holidays with
Cablo de Palos a small fishing harbour at one end of the La Manga Strip. You can
wander round the harbour area and watch the fishermen prepare for a day out at
sea, walk around the quaint streets and sample some of the finest seafood
restaurants around the area.
La Manga means ‘sleeve’ and it is a strip of land 21km long which separates the
Mediterranean Sea from the shallow gentle waters of the almost enclosed Mar
Menor make it ideal for families with children whilst the cool Mediterranean
glistens in the background. Situated by two seas you can choose between them for
where to spend your days.
Various water sports are available with windsurfing, diving, fishing, canoing
and many more. Along it’s coast on both sides, there are beautiful ‘Blue Flag’
beaches with white sands, ideal for family holidays. your days.
The climate of this region, renowned for its "eternal spring" qualities, makes
the area an all year round holiday destination. Perfect for those looking for
peace and quiet in winter and ideal in summer for the more traditional holiday.
The area is easily accessible from both Alicante and Murcia Airports. Taxis or
Car hire are readily available at both airports!
